Searching the World-Wide Web Using Signature Files
نویسندگان
چکیده
A problem conamonly faced by users of the World-Wide Web (WWW) is forgetting the path traversed to reach a previously read document. SWISS (Seeking WorldWide Web Information Using a Signature File Search) is a system designed to alleviate this ’lost document problem’ by incrementally saving the contents of visited documents in a signature file index. SWISS allows the user to retrieve a previously read document via keyword search. Advantages of the system include parsimonious use of resources, capability for search on the entire text of indexed documents, and browser independence.

Collecting all the papers in a research field is a first step towards an exhaustive survey. A number of research paper databases, which are provided by libraries, publishing companies and academic societies, are available for searching papers. However, searchers are compelled to repeat the same search operation for each database if there are multiple databases for a research field. To improve s...
متن کاملMultilingual Information Retrieval in World Wide Web
The article addresses: (1). The design of an information retrieval (IR), as the Multilingual Information Retrieval Tool Hierarchy (MIRTH), which with virtual corpora on the World Wide Web, also known as Web or WWW. It is motivated by the desire to create a search engine to retrieve information by accessing a virtual. (2). The implementation of a general model of multilingual retrieval for the W...
متن کاملA Scalable Index Mechanism for High-Dimensional Data in Cluster File Systems
We address the problem of designing index structures that allow efficient search for approximate nearest neighbors in cluster file systems and especially the scalability of index to parallel execution in order to provide adequate contents-based retrieval upon overwhelming multimedia data. Given large image and video collections that are spread over the world wide web, one of the most challengin...
متن کاملInverted files and dynamic signature files for optimisation of Web directories
Web directories are taxonomies for the classification of Web documents. This kind of IR systems present a specific type of search where the document collection is restricted to one area of the category graph. This paper introduces a specific data architecture for Web directories which improves the performance of restricted searches. That architecture is based on a hybrid data structure composed...
متن کاملSound, Music and Textual Associations on the World Wide Web
Sound files on the World Wide Web are accessed from web pages. To date, this relationship has not been explored extensively in the MIR literature. This paper details a series of experiments designed to measure the similarity between the public text visible on a web page and the linked sound files, the name of which is normally unseen by the user. A collection of web pages was retrieved from the...
